Well what a day. We crossed countless train trestles (bridges) over wide rivers...what views. Today we hoped to do 63km but had to stop at 58km since we started a bit late...needed some more sleep because of 3 hours sleep night before. Another delay was we came to a sign in St. Fintans that said trestle out! We talked to several friendly locals who advised us that the bridge was out and the river was high due to a lot of rain. There was no way we weren't getting across. One man said if we walked up the bank of the river about 100ft we could cross the 200ft wide river...well that was all I needed to hear. Terry had a great idea...we should take a long sturdy stick to help balance while crossing. We climbed down the incline, went up the bank 100ft and started across the fast moving river. About half way across we were up almost to our waist. I turned back to look at Yigit...we both raised our sticks in the air and yelled smiling from ear to ear. What an awesome adventure today. Terry has great pics...will upload sometime soon. As my friend Claude would say...live strong my friends...you won't regret it!
All the best everyone

This blog is a continuation of the Race Across the Rock blog...a 17 day, 883 KM run I completed across Newfoundland via the old railway bed. Some people have expressed interest in what is next...that would be The Canadian Death Race (125 KM through the Rockies)....and what I am doing for training. Consequently, I thought I would blog about my training in case some of you found it helpful. I hope your training is going well!

Day 1 is in the Books!
Well after 5 hour drive to the ferry...14 hour ferry ride...a 1.5 hour delay getting off the ferry because of a problem with the ramp...a 1 hour delay because someone didn't return to their vehicle...about 8 hours of driving across the island crammed into a vehicle...Day 1 is done.
Today was tough as body was a little tight from the drive and we only had 3 hours sleep last night. Also because we had 3 hour drive this morning to get to the start we had a shortened running day so there was a sense of urgency. Will be interesting to see how bodies feel in the AM since we probably pushed ourselves harder today then we should have.
Well enough wining...it can always be worse right? :-) it was an amazing day with beautiful scenery.
We bumped into a man on the trail...when he found out we were running across NL he insisted on giving us $5 towards water or a snack. Thanks Vince...its good to be back in NL. :-)
